American Legion Post 135 Lounge

Victorian District

A veterans' post bar that anyone can drink in. Eat It and Like It (14 December 2024) called it 'the most overlooked dive in Savannah' and 'popular with locals, especially industry employees after a long shift'. Its official name is 'Post 135 Lounge, though no one calls it that'. It is cash only with an ATM inside, has a pool table and a small porch, and shares the building with the burger room Betty Bombers.

Betty Bombers

Victorian District · american, burgers, sandwiches

Betty Bombers is a counter-service diner inside American Legion Post 135, just south of Forsyth Park. The room is done up in what the venue calls a WWII inspired atmosphere. It offers counter service, delivery and takeout, and the kitchen runs until 2am Thursday through Saturday.

Open late. Go earlier if you want a calmer room.

Brighter Day Natural Foods Market

Victorian District · natural foods, deli, smoothies, juice bar, sandwiches

Brighter Day is the natural foods market at the south end of Forsyth Park, with a deli and a juice bar inside that blends smoothies with organic fruit. VegOut points to its plant-based sandwiches, including a vegan take on tuna salad. The deli keeps shorter hours than the store.

Local 11ten

Victorian District · southern, new american, seafood

Local 11ten cooks Southern food in a restored 1950s-era bank a block south of Forsyth Park, using Georgia coast seafood and vegetables and herbs from Savannah-area farmers. Upstairs is Perch, its rooftop bar, open when the weather allows. Visit Savannah lists a private dining room for up to 40.

Perch at Local 11 Ten

Victorian District · new american

Perch is the rooftop bar above Local 11 Ten, which the restaurant says occupies 'the restored 1950's-era downtown bank'. It is open only when the weather allows. It sits on the same block as the American Legion bar, Betty Bombers and Brighter Day.

Strangebird

Victorian District · mexican, smoked meats, tacos, burgers

Strangebird started in 2019 as a food truck in a 1967 Airstream Ambassador and moved into the restored Streamliner diner car on Barnard Street in July 2023. Chefs Daniel 'Nilo' Aranza and Felipe Vera of the FARM Hospitality team cook what they call casual plates with a Mexican flair ... smokehouse tacos on nixtamalized tortillas, burritos, and a Birria Burger that Eat It and Like It counts among the city's best burgers. The diner car was Sandfly BBQ's downtown outpost before this.

The Black Rabbit

Victorian District · sandwiches

The Black Rabbit is a sandwich shop with a full bar on Barnard Street, across from the Streamliner diner car. The short menu is six sandwiches ... Smoked Turkey, Cubano, Three Piggies, Van Gogh, Club and an Eggplant Stacker ... plus a salad. It stays open until 1am most nights.

Go early. It turns into a late-night spot later in the evening.

The Sentient Bean

Victorian District · coffee, cafe, vegetarian, tacos

Kelli Pearson and Kristin Russell opened The Sentient Bean in 2001 at the south end of Forsyth Park, and the cafe's motto is brewing coffee and community since then. All of the coffee is organic and fair trade, the kitchen buys from local farmers, and the shop composts, recycles glass and is an EPA Green Power Partner. At night it turns into a small stage for live music, drag and burlesque shows, film nights, and an open mic on the first and third Tuesday run with Savannah Pride Center.

This is a music venue. It is loud when a show is on.

Treylor Park Pizza Party

Victorian District · pizza

Pizza Party is the pizza room of the Savannah-born Treylor Park group, which also runs Treylor Park on Bay Street, Hitch on Drayton, Double Wide Diner and Beach Party on Tybee. Savannah Magazine recommends it for families because of the retro pinball machines in a small room set off from the dining area. It does not take reservations.
